Remote Monitoring
Definition
Remote monitoring is what wireless data transmission makes possible in the field. The distinction matters: wireless data transmission describes the technology; remote monitoring describes how and why operations teams use it. In power line tensioning, the dynamometer is attached to the pull line at the tensioning setup — often hundreds of feet from the tensioning truck and winch operator. The operator cannot safely stop the winch, walk to the dynamometer, and read the value. Remote monitoring via the Communicator II display delivers the live force reading to the operator’s position. In crane and heavy lift operations, the dynamometer may be suspended 50 or more feet above ground — inaccessible during a live load. Remote monitoring allows the lift supervisor to observe load data from grade level in real time. Phone monitoring: the EDxtreme’s standard wireless system transmits to the Communicator II display unit. Direct smartphone monitoring is not a standard feature — contact DMS to confirm current capabilities.
